Greatly enjoyed our time at this hotel. It was comfortable and lively. I wished the restaurant had more vegetarian options but overall it was lovely.
My only complaint is the smoky smell from the vents whenever we would turn on the air conditioning or the bathroom vent.

Rooms need to be refurbished and deep cleaned / pool no longer heated. (Dec 2024)

Requested a different room due to the quality and condition but they were unable to provide a comparable room size with king bed.
Towels and sheets had marks and spots on them, ceiling in bathroom had mold, wallpaper coming off the walls in room, flooring damaged from most likely a water leak from the ceiling/damaged roof, paint chipping and peeling on walls and ceiling, bathroom mirror damaged and scuffed, lamp shades bent.

Slip sliding away...

Having stayed at this property for a number of years, it's sad to see them cutting corners in so many ways. Gone are the Illy coffee makers... so nice to have REALLY good in room coffee in the morning! And with the menu change, it's obvious the chef is gone, replaced by the line cooks and a mediocre menu offering at best. I still enjoy the ability to check out one of the on loan guitars and the property itself is a well-designed throwback that is clean and well located in a quiet but close to downtown location.

The Paradox is in a good location to access the main Santa Cruz locations you might be coming for- downtown and wharf/boardwalk- and easy to drive to any other locations. It is not close to the UC but easy to get to. If you like walking, getting to the beach was an easy 7 or so blocks. The property was immaculate and modern. Parking lot is safe and easy, though paying to park is not a plus for me. The pool is lovely, warm, and and well protected. Our room was very clean and the mattress was really comfortable (I like firmer pillows personally so might bring one of my own next time) Had a small issue getting the temp right but figured it out. Everyone was helpful and friendly and I would definitely stay there again- have stayed overnight at various hotels in the area and I like this one the best for one that is not on the beach.

cool spot

I think this is the hotel to stay at in Santa Cruz. it appears to be a rennovated/redone holiday inn-type hotel. so the window/door opens to the outside breezeway.
no complaints about the furnishings and sleep quality.
