Enjoyed my stay here

I enjoyed my stay here especially for the value. The room was clean (a few scuff marks on the wall) and it was quiet other than the occasional siren. The room came with a mini fridge and a safe, a microwave was accessible in a common area. There isn’t a ton of space to store clothing other than a few hooks but for a single traveler it was fine. The air conditioning unit was awesome. Bathroom was clean - my biggest complaint was the lack of space at the sink. There is a shelf over the toilet to put toiletries. The rain shower was nice and there was shampoo, conditioner, and body was available. It would be nice to have a little more shelving in the shower so you could set stuff somewhere other than the floor. The shower can get pretty humid so it does help to leave the door open and the fan works well. The folks at reception were always very helpful and you get water at any time at the desk. The neighborhood has good access to the bus and train system (you can occasionally hear a train go by). At night a few streets were a little sketchy but as long as you stay on the main roads it’s fine.

Where Boutique Means “Bring Your Own Hazmat Suit”

We were booked at Veriu Central as a group of 7, each with our own room, for a 3 night business stay. We were looking forward to the chic “boutique hotel” experience as promised by the website and 4 star rating.
What we got was part haunted house, part insectarium, and part episode of CSI
Let’s start with the ambiance: Dust. So much dust. I’m not sure if they were going for “post-apocalyptic chic,” but they nailed it.
And the smell.... A heady blend of urine, mould and cigarette smoke, with overtones of industrial-strength disappointment.
In one room, the bedding came complete with a questionable stain, and while we could only guess what it was, none of the options were good. We didn’t bother asking — we didn’t want to know.
The “decor” was a celebration of neglect. More dust and more questionable stains.
Sinks that drained slower than our will to live by night two, and filthy showers with other people’s hair, belonging to the last guest… or maybe the one before that… or possibly the staff.
Much like the thoughtfully left water bottle. We can only hope that was left by a staff member and not a previous ghost guest.
Let’s talk about nature, we got up close and personal with so many bugs and cockroaches, we were considering naming them. One of them tried to join us for drinks.
Which brings us to the bar scene. Picture this: our group, alone in the hotel bar, laughing softly (as one does while trying to forget they’ve showered with insects), only to be shushed by the staff. Yes — SHUSHED. Apparently, we were disrupting the cockroaches’ quiet time.
The highlight? Sticky spoons left in the room that had clearly seen action — but not from us.
By day three, we were itchy, sleep-deprived, and seriously considering pest control as a side hustle.
Apart from the night manager (who shushes) the staff were lovely, clearly doing their best under less-than-ideal conditions.
Who runs this place?
Why has it not been condemned?
Would I recommend it? Only to my enemies. Or entomologists. Five stars… for the bugs.
We came as guests, we left as survivors.

Filthy Fawlty Towers with no customer service - stay well clear

Filthy, impersonal and not recommended. I stayed for 8 days in May (room 419) and the room was filthy upon check in (skid marks, hair around the sink, stuff left in bin etc) TV in room didn’t work nor did bedside lamp (reported on day 1 and again later in the week - but no one could be bothered to fix it!) over my stay I only encountered housekeeping once, otherwise i had to speak to front desk to get new towels, bed made or extra loo roll (often then forgot about it completely). Over 8 days the staff never said hi/got eye contact with me anything else - most often they’d completely ignore me walking past. Complete shambles
Upon check out, when mentioning the above plus a few other things I was just met with a shrug of the shoulders and a bye!
This place is an absolute filth-heap and with the complete lack of any serviceminded human being (the night receptionist constantly put a big sign on front door saying he was busy whilst hiding behind counter, provably looking up unsolicited material online!) on a day before I was checking out I was even threatened that receptionist would come up and ‘drag me out’ sad to say he clearly felt he needed to show his ‘power’ - very professional- NOT! I was checking out one day later and at no hotel is it acceptable to speak to any customer like that!! Due to the lack of hygiene and cleanliness at this place I’m seriously considering reporting them as it’s outrageous
For 8 nights I paid over $1500 for something I clearly did not get so if you are fine living in a stinky, dirty, impersonal hotel in the city this place is for you otherwise stay well clear

When it comes to cleanliness, there is no excuse for anything less than excellent standards. We sincerely apologise for not having met these standards during your stay.
We understand that the peace sign (Do not disturb) was left on your door multiple times through out your stay and therefore, housekeeping did not enter your room to clean it on these days. However, we have passed your feedback onto our housekeeping management and a full deep clean has been done in the room you have stayed in.
Please understand that our front door is locked at night for security reasons, however, all guests are able to enter using their room key.
Again, we sincerely apologise for the issues you have expereineced and for not having met your every expectation.

Very unclean hotel rooms

Terrible stay at the Veriu Central.
The lobby is lovely and staff were incredibly kind the entire stay, however the room was disgusting.
Extremely unclean, there were bugs in the shower, cockroaches on the floor and the amount of dust showed the room hadn’t been vacuumed in months.
Definitely not a 3.5-4 star hotel. Much more like a 2 star.
Wouldn’t recommend staying in this location.

Stay was great !
Great staff and friendly and rooms are nice and clean
Quite rooms
The only downside was the ventilation wasn’t great in the room as no fly screen on the widow so you couldn’t leave it open and was a lot of condensation on the windows in the morning even with the fan on so not great with that so it’ needs fly screens so you can leave the window open
