Perfect for our stay.
The room is big. The bed is very comfortable with 2 pillows each. There are lots of plugs and USB ports in the room, so no issues with charging devices. A wardrobe with a decent number of hangers, a safe, drawers, hairdryer in the bathroom, big TV on the wall, table and chairs for meals, and some comfy seating
The cost of breakfast was included. They are a rooms only hotel, so have no restaurant, so breakfast comes in a box delivered to your room. You can have it at 7, 8 or 9, and the choices are classic, Greek or vegan. They are a bit reminiscent of an airline breakfast, but better.
The shower was powerful and hot. They have a 'rainfall' shower overhead and a handheld shower head as well. Our rainfall shower head had a split in it which shot water out of the side. We reported it and it was not fixed whle we were there, but we were staying mostly over a weekend so maybe understandable. The hand held shower head had an adjustable height holster and was fabulous. The day we went to the top of Lykabattas Hill to watch the sunset, was very windy. We were frozen to the bone when we got back. I was in a state of bliss in the lovely hot shower after that.
The staff were very good, particularly the young woman on reception in the afternoons and early evenings.
The location of the hotel was great. It was only a very short walk (2 minutes) to Syggrou-Fix metro station. That is 1 stop from Akropoli, and 2 stops from Syntagma Square. It is easy walking distance (for those of us who prefer to walk round a city) or most of the main places you'd want to see. 10/15 minutes from the Akropolis, 15/20 minutes to Plaka, Monastiraki, Ancient Agora, the original Olympic Stadium, the National Gardens etc. The metro is easy to use and has just 4 different lines. When venturing in, you need to know the last stop on the line you are looking for, to make sure you get on the right train, going in the right direction.
It is also a short distance from Philippapos Hill, which is an excellent view point over Athens, and nowhere near as busy as Lykabattas Hill. It is in a park which has other features in it, but we went just after we'd arrived, late afternoon, to see the views over the city as the sun went down. We walked up through back streets, and just as we got to the entrance to the park, we looked to our right and saw the most amazing view of the Parthenon between the houses. It quite took my breath away. Some of the streets do get a bit steep, and then in the park itself you walk up a winding path to a viewpoint and then to the monument at the top. Amazing views and the sunsets are incredible. Top tip: make sure that going up, you note the path you emerge from at the top, as trying to find the start of the path for the way down in the dark can be a bit tricky. The walk to the park was 10/15 minutes, and the walk up the hill 10 minutes at a slow plod.
I preferred Philippapos over Lykabattas, as it was quieter and being closer to the Akropolis you get much better photos of the Parthenon all lit up. Lykabattas is better for a long-distance view, as you can see all the way to the sea. I would also warn that if you walk up Lykabattas, even just to the cable car, it is 'challenging'. Seemingly neverending steps just to get to the cable car station. We went up on the cable car but walked down. The walk down is on a good path, well lit, and only took 15 minutes. The walk up I think would be at least double.
We did a guided visit to the Akropolis with Key Tours. This was included in our package and was very good. We also went on a tour with New Athens Free Tours. This is exactly what it says, free, and they just ask you to make a donation to the guide if you enjoyed it. Our guide was Walter, who was excellent. I would recommend doing this. He is very knowledgeable and the tour lasts about 3 hours, and it's a good way to get to know the centre of the city.
This hotel was perfect for our needs, and I would definitely stay there again.
