Wonderful location, delicious breakfast, kind , English speaking staff
What a wonderful hotel! The location is a short walk to all the historic sites, while also close to lots of delicious restaurants. The rooms are spacious with windows you can open to enjoy the sounds of Rome.
The breakfast is delicious!!! It is adjacent to the Parliment building so it was neat when the French President was visiting right next door!
In addition, the staff is wonderful as well. Part of our family had to extend our stay a night due to one daughter developing a nasty stomach bug at 2am and the overnight employees (Kiera and Ulderico) were so kind getting additional supplies and extending 1 room an additional night. Additionally, Salvadore, who works the front desk, was so attentive helping me and getting us airport transfer since the rest of my family left as scheduled. I will forever be grateful for their kindness.

It was fantastic! The hotel was lovely, the service outstanding and the location couldn’t have been better. They also have a wonderful breakfast as a bonus!!!

Conveniently located in Rome
Comfortable room overlooking square; which could be a little noisy late into the night with people out and about in the square
Buffet Breakfast was good but could have offered fresh fruit.
Conveniently located to all attractions in Rome plus around the corner from Giolitti – the best place for Gelato.

A lovely stay with room for improvement...
My husband and I came here as part of a 10 day trip to Italy (Venice, Florence, Rome) for our honeymoon - we married last October. Italy is also my ancestral home, I have Italian blood on my mum's side, so it's been a dream of mine for many years to visit.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were quickly welcomed by a member of staff on reception, congratulated on our marriage and shown to our room, while a friendly gentleman brought up our luggage for us. An important thing to note: if you're dropped off in a taxi further down the slope outside the hotel, you may struggle to drag larger luggage up and over the cobbles!
Once we entered our room, we noticed we'd been left some small, cheap and cheerful sandwiches on the side. These unfortunately weren't anything to write home about, however the gesture was kind and we appreciated the thought. We were also given a bottle of celebratory fizz, though neither of us like fizz so sadly couldn't drink it, but again the thought is appreciated! After we'd taken a moment to catch our breath following lots of travelling on the train etc, we started to realise the state of the room. There were scratch marks and dirt on the floor, walls and wardrobe, pieces of wooden furniture were chipped off the corners, the shower wasn't as squeaky clean as we'd hoped and the bathroom tissue paper was cheap and scratchy.
With high expectations after two fabulous stays at the previous hotels, and considering this hotel was a higher rating and price than both of them, we were disheartened and decided to ask the receptionist if we could change rooms. He listened to our complaints and gladly obliged, giving us a larger room that was in far better shape than the previous one. The receptionist met us there, ensured everything was satisfactory for us, brought our luggage up the stairs to the door and even carried our bottle of fizz over for us too. We are very grateful for his service and for being so accommodating to us.
Unfortunately, later that night we had another issue. My husband called me over to one of the windows where a leak had suddenly appeared - water had begun pouring out of the underside of the window frame. We called reception and a very kind gentleman named Mauro attended our room within minutes, checking the leak, drying the window off for us and ensuring it had stopped. He told us to keep the window closed while it rains and that he'd have a technician sent up while we were out. We were very grateful to him for his help.
The following morning, after a very average night's sleep (we were woken up by the heat of the room every night as the AC didn't work), we decided to have breakfast in the hotel. This was nothing to write home about either, there were decent choices available but nothing spectacular, nor was there any natural light coming in so it felt very confined. Still, we had a decent meal and headed out to explore Rome. The hotel is ideally located for the big historical sites, with the Vatican being a short 25 minute walk away, but this is the best aspect of the hotel in our opinion. For the most part, it all seems to be catered to older people, and this was particularly apparent when we realised we were always the youngest couple (without kids) in all areas of the hotel. I should also note that we did have a few coffees in the bar which were all excellent and our experience in there was lovely, excluding on our last day when we had a bizarre interaction with a different bartender. He never asked for our order, we had to ask him instead, and when I asked for fruit salad he brought a plate of apparently free biscuits. I later got my fruit, however when he handed them to me he had suddenly got a deep cut on his chin and was visibly bleeding! We're not sure what had happened but he didn't look happy or comfortable throughout!
While our stay here was enjoyable, we probably would only return because the staff are kind and welcoming and because of the location of the hotel. Everything else needs a serious upgrade. The historic beauty and structure of the building should remain of course, but we believe the styling of the rooms, the food and the general atmosphere of the hotel could benefit from a revamp.

Exceptional hospitality. Charming beautiful rooms.
Love everything about this hotel! The hospitality provided is beyond measure - Valentina and Roberta were fabulous! They gave us so many helpful recommendations and treated us like family.
The hotel is very charming, beautifully decorated, extremely clean and comfortable. This was our 5th visit to Hotel Nazionale - we would never stay anywhere else when visiting Rome. Love it so much!
