Nice hotel stay in Nigeria.
When I arrived at the hotel, I found it to be very clean and the employees are welcoming and helpful. I filled out some information and my room was ready in less than 10 minutes.
Walking into the room, it was very cold. I loved this. I am from Texas and a/c is important. There was a nice sitting room with a comfy-looking couch. Sitting on the couch, however, it was like sitting on a park bench with fabric on it. But my husband told me that couches are made that way in their country, so I accepted it. The bed was big and comfortable to me. We had a jacuzzi tub and I had an issue with that. I am 5ft 3in with short legs and I had to step up into the tub by holding on to the door. And when getting out, I was always afraid I would slip when getting out. My husband always helped me get into and out of it. If I choose to stay again, I would go for a normal bathtub. We never used the jacuzzi. Most of the time, the water was hot. Sometimes, the water was just barely warm. The first few days, the water was very slow to drain, but the cleaning guy came and did something and the water drained faster after that.
Back to the a/c, there was a unit in the sitting room and another in the bedroom. We found that if we turned one of the units off, the whole room would still be cold. It works very well. There were only 3 working tv channels … 24hour music videos, news, and sports. Sometimes we’d see big brother, but I brought my own entertainment. The WiFi was ok. My husband brought his own WiFi.
The hotel food was ok. My reservation gave me 1 free breakfast and I let my husband eat it. He seemed to enjoy it. Now I knew that Nigerians loved spicy food, but almost everything is spicy. I wasn’t prepared. The hotel has a menu that you can access by scanning the code on your phone. The pictures of the food on the menu is not the same food you will receive. We ordered the ribs and fries. The picture shows a slab of bbq ribs, but what we received was 2 big ribs, mostly fat, and some veggies and fries. I tried to order some fish sticks but they didn’t have any, so I asked for chicken nuggets. They brought me some chicken covered with spicy sauce all over it (maybe they didn’t understand me when I said chicken nuggets). I couldn’t eat it and my husband ended up taking it to go. Unfortunately, I have stomach issues and can’t handle spicy foods. I did have pizza and some KFC, so I was good. I did order the actual chicken nuggets from the hotel menu and they brought me 2 huge fried chicken patties with fries. This was actually good to me. Not spicy at all. I ate one of them and went back a few hours later and there were gnats all over it even though it was covered. So I threw it out. I ended up ordering this again on my last day there, but my stomach was nervous because of my upcoming flight, so my husband ended up eating them.
The pool area was very nice. We didn’t swim, but just sat outside and enjoyed the light breeze.
There was a small fridge that kept our things cold. The room also had a water kettle. It already had water in it. Luckily, I always travel with some cleaning supplies, so we scrubbed it out and used it to make noodles and coffee. The water gets very hot. There was only a remote control for the living room tv but not the bedroom tv. Same with the a/c… only a remote for the bedroom but not the living room. We just flipped a switch to turn off the living room a/c.
During power outages, the generators kicked on quickly, so that was good.
Some things I didn’t really like was that when trying to book this hotel, I had to use Expedia. I’ve never used them before, and I was nervous that something would go wrong because I was not booking directly with the hotel, but everything worked out fine. Also, I took a few credit cards for emergencies or shopping, but when trying to use my card at the hotel, my payment wouldn’t go through because it was not a Nigerian bank card. I was so happy that my husband was there, because I do like to travel solo sometimes and I would have been lost without having a local bank card. It is definitely a learning experience for when I travel back to Africa in the future. Also, there were a few critters. My husband did kill 3 roaches and we had gnats during the last few days there. I live in an apartment complex, so I’m not afraid of roaches. But that’s just an fyi.
With everything I have reviewed, this is not a bad hotel. I enjoyed my 10 days in Nigeria and I would choose this place again. The hotel price was not bad at all and everyone was nice.
