The Perfect Getaway in San Juan

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 5-day trip to the Condado Vanderbilt. We didn’t have time for an extended trip but we were looking for an easy, luxurious, relaxed getaway in Puerto Rico, and that’s exactly what we got. It was a quick trip from the San Juan airport, convenient to Old San Juan, and the Condado area was very nice. With all of that in mind, I thought the hotel, although not cheap by any means, was a really good value.
The hotel itself is lovely and our room was very comfortable and spacious with an amazing view, but the best parts were the service and the amenities. All the employees we encountered were super friendly, and the pools were wonderful. We tried every restaurant at the hotel as well as room service, and we had excellent service and delicious food every time. The food was pricey but worth it for convenience and quality.
If you’re looking to lay on the beach, this may not be the best place for you. There is a pretty little beach with full service, but it was a bit crowded and swimming is strongly discouraged due to rip tides. We preferred just gazing at the ocean from our balcony, the infinity pool, the sun deck, or the lobby.
I recommend the Condado Vanderbilt for a great getaway!

Disappointed

The room was tired. A bureau had a drawer that wouldn’t stay shut. The elevators didn’t work. The exit doorway stuck and wouldn’t open. The water pressure in the sink was inadequate. Apparently I need to write more so let me say the price was luxury but the room wasn’t. The pools were lovely.

Not The Best Value

A+ Customer Service. Value for money D-. I have included a picture of my view for roughly $500 a night. The room was spacious and they did provided free snacks but for this price, a bottle of complimentary beer or wine would have been appropriate. Great views when laying out but no beach to walk on.

Horribly disappointing experience.

As seasoned travelers of over 40 years we were beyond disappointed with our recent experience at this property. Billed as a 5 star resort, it garnished much less stars from our visit. Our room was in the east tower and was mildew ridden, dated, with broken shades, filthy windows negating any ocean view that we would have appreciated, cracked safe and a mold filled shower. Housekeeping was abysmal and we were lucky to have a daily service after calling or visiting the front desk multiple times each day. Two of the days we were there we finally received housekeeping by night time, but were left with no towels. On none of our days was our refrigerator or snacks restocked. Our sheets were never cleaned although bed was remade. Management was well versed in apologies, but no action, follow up or remedies. We spent far too much time waiting to talk with management each day about the myriad of problems that we encountered. We were consoled by the fact that other couples that we met were experiencing similar problems. The grounds were beautiful as was the pool, but our time spent here was not one of relaxation, but rather, frustration and energies served on problems encountered daily. Meant to be a relaxing, stress free 5 night 40th anniversary getaway, it was anything but. Until they get their housekeeping, communications and renovations in order, I would dissuade a visit to this property.

Not lux

This is an average hotel in a good location that charges an arm and a leg. Staff was friendly but the service was subpar. Room and food were so overpriced. The beach is dangerous. The two bars in the lobby are never open so the restaurants that are open are always packed.
