Lovely place great staff food lovely beer on point my only disappointment was the mattress wire sprung twin to make a king size not to my liking but it would not stop me from staying again

Disappointing Visit!

Three of us called here for lunch on a Saturday recently. We were shown to our table by a pleasant lad and he took our drinks order. He later returned and took our lunch order without a note pad. We ordered rump steak, sausage chips and beans and fish and chips. We waited well over 30 mins even though it was quiet in Restaurant. Eventually the sausage and fish and chip order arrived. A little while later dishes started being presented to the Diner without a meal! None of which she had ordered. Then a fillet steak was put in front of her. We pointed out a rump was ordered not fillet so they took it back to the kitchen. Then she was left with no further explanation. When we asked what was happening she was told the Chef was cooking another meal for her. It eventually arrived as the other two Diners had almost finished. They confirmed they would not charge for the meal. It is just odd that they wasted a fillet at nearly £30 AND a rump at around £23.. I asked the Waitress why it would not have been better to have offered her the fillet at a rump price and the difference would have been a loss to them of £10? but she looked perplexed! To be fair the food was ok, the décor was lovely and the setting. It would appear that maybe more staff training and management presence would be advisable. Sadly I do not think we will be returning.

Overnight stay

Booked a room on booking .com for an overnight stay
Warm welcome from Lee the manager /owner
Showed us our room which was excellent , Bathroom had walk in shower
Was spotless clean
Bedroom had tv , tea / coffee
Large double bed
The pub has a great selection of beers and lagers
Layout very open plan and light and airy
Food Menu good with a specials board
Had an evening meal good quality food with a varied selection
Service and presentation was excellent
Breakfast was excellent choice of cereals and fruit juices
Food cooked to order full English 5*****
Very pleasant overnight stay
Free car parking and wi fi
Can highly recommend

Grieving family very badly treated by pub’s new owners - book with caution

My grandmother’s wake for 25 people was due to be held in the Woodberry, however with just over a week to go, they suddenly cancelled. They said unexpected work had arisen & the pub had to close. It was later admitted they’d known about it for several weeks. Why on earth they left it until eleventh hour to inform us is a completely mystery!
Landing this kind of awful surprise on a grieving family is nothing short of heartless. Unbeknownst to us, they also didn’t bother to inform our family members who’d booked overnight accomodation until a few days before their arrival from Northern Ireland! Talk about salt in the wounds! Not only were we forced to search for a new venue for the wake but also hotel rooms at the last minute.
If you decide to book an event at the pub please do so with extreme caution. The new owners, the Valiant Pub Company, seem disorganised and sadly have been unwilling to fully engage on this issue. I’m disappointed and upset & wouldn’t wish for another family to be faced with this treatment.
