In a state of semi ruin

Was I guess, once upon a time quite a place, not so today. Our room was a fair size but quite old fashioned. The hotel no longer has a restaurant. (So in reality it is now a B&B and not a real hotel as such in our opinion) When we arrived we went to the bar area for a drink and were met by an overwhelming smell of damp, a semi collapsing roof and a load of furniture pilled up in one corner. Very few drinks were available (we had the last 2 bottles of Peroni by the way) The rest of the downstairs area of the hotel had a smell of damp. When I asked about the state of the place I was told that they were undergoing some works on the hotel. Breakfast however was decent and the serving staff (the only staff we really saw during our stay) were friendly. Kind of think the place is kidding people along not letting them know in advance about the condition of the place.

Enjoyed my stay but tv was nit recieving a signal, i was not offered internet or password and the kettle needed a good clean/de scale these points spoiled a good stay as room, parking,breakfast was good for the price paid.

Caledonian Hotel Dumfries

Very cold room on arrival at 16:00 and bathroom radiator not working at all. Window had a large gap allowing cold air to come in. We had to plug this gap with loo paper!
Maint fixed the bathroom radiator within an hour, but it never got hot.
The window panelling paint was flaking off and the woodwork was warped and coming apart.

This an average hotel only provides a b&b service. The cooked breakfast is very good. There is a bar but it doesn't stay open for very long. The room we had was clean, but lacked sound proofing. We could hear everything going on in the next room.
