Great relaxing village stay

Stayed one night to visit friends in Aldeburgh, excellent ample parking, check in as sweet as a nut, room warm, welcoming and pleasant. Great nights sleep. Main pub beautifully decorated for the Christmas season and a breakfast so good, with great options and choice.

A dreadfully disappointing dining debacle

My wife and I stopped at the Crown for an evening meal last Sunday (24th Nov) It was an 8:30 reservation (we'd been to the cinema in Leiston) there was a very limited menu - Roast dinner, Fish & Chips, Burger and a couple of other things. My wife decided on Fish & chips and for want of better choice, I opted for Roast Beef. We were quickly told that Fish and chips wasn't available due to "an issue with one of our friers." We decided to leave at this point, things weren't looking good. The waitress said she'd see what the chef could do.... She came back and told us that the Fish & Chips would now be possible. So we were back in the game. I had a vegetable soup to start things off - it was ....Mnehh... ok-ish. I ordered a glass of Malbec and my wife - a Pinot Grigio. So nothing too challenging in a pub with a pretty good reputation (4 stars on this site!) both were dreadful. The fish (a good piece of haddock, by the way) was shrouded in a soggy, greasy batter that just wasn't nice at all. My roast dinner was what you might expect if you went to a carvery and let somebody that didn't particularly like you select your food. Shrivelled parsnips, rock hard roast potatoes, tasteless cabbage, the beef matched the cabbage for flavour. Neither of us ate our food in the end. They mercifully refunded the (un-consumed) drinks and we left £45 poorer and still hungry. There is no way we could ever be persuaded to eat there again. If they cannot serve a decent meal on a Sunday evening then it would be better t5hat they served nothing. At a time when the hospitality industry is trying to recover, surely it would be better to provide a good quality service and encourage custom rather than cut corners with substandard food and deter clientele.

Wonderful pub with rooms in a really god location

What a wonderful hotel/pub with rooms. Situated in a little village just a short drive from
Southwold, Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings this is a lovely place to base yourself for visiting the area.
My room was very large with a free standing bathtub in the bedroom and a bathroom with a large shower. A very comfortable room with just about everything you could want.
Had breakfasts and dinners there and both were excellent. A nicely decorated restaurant and a small but wide ranging menu that catered well for a vegetarian like me. The cooked breakfast were especially good.
Not a lot else in Westleton aside from The Crown - but its location and proximity to all the major towns and top nature spots like Dunwich Heath more than makes up for that.

Perfect weekend stay in a lovely hotel which offered great attentive staff / customer service. Would really recommend and can’t wait to return.

What more could you ask for

Having stayed at The Crown before, we were looking forward to our weekend …… and we were not disappointed …. We were greeted with welcome back to the crown by the receptionist which was a lovely start to a brilliant stay…. Our room was super comfy, clean and tastefully furnished …. Food as always thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented….. all the staff were polite, friendly and well informed …. Our four pawed friend was also made very welcome …. You couldn’t ask for more …
Definitely will return
